The NENASim Preemie is a realistic interactive simulator, to be used for neonatal intensive care training. The Preemie allows for a variety of medical procedures, preparing medical staff and everyone involved in the enormous responsibility of caring for a preterm baby. The main assets of the Preemie are its realistic airway, lifelike feel and looks, and task-training functionalities. NENASim Preemie is available in two degrees of fidelity.
Realistic look and feel
The NENASim Preemie accurately reproduces a preterm baby’s delicate fragility through the realistic look, feel, size, weight, and proportions. Realistic eyes and eyelids add to the convincing feeling of caring for a premature baby.
IV access point
There are multiple IV access points with which to train. On the scalp, two wet IVs can be placed on the superficial temporal veins. Fluids are then drained.
The airway has a tongue, vocal cords, trachea and esophagus. The Preemie can be orally and nasally intubated. Ventilation generates a rise in the chest. Improper intubation and ventilation leads to a rise of the belly.
Training handling of a premature baby
The Preemie enables medical teams to work together in caring for a premature baby. By giving the trainees different roles within predefined scenarios, medical skills and teamwork are tested and improved.
The NENA-Preemie can be used to practice CPR.
